300 years ago, human cities and science facilities continued to advance into the frontier lands. The drought had been intense for over 10 years. As they built their settlements, the half orcs would constantly attack them. They would kill everyone and take the supplies. A politician’s wife was abducted during one such raid. Her body was later found mutilated. Tossed aside like unwanted garbage. War was declared on the half-orcs.
The world was in chaos. Magic was being used without care. The destruction it both can and has caused was unmentionable. Entire city walls flattened in an instant. People being commanded to do things against their will. A thief could use it to sneak in to steal highly classified material. The world was falling apart. The human race had had enough. They decided to become the unifying force that brought order.
295 years ago, the genopage project was completed. It was a biological weapon the humans used on the half orcs. It only affected them because it attached itself to the Orc in their DNA. Our ships flew over everything and sprayed it into the air. Now the Half orc population would be reduced, controlled, making it harder to commit the atrocities they were known for.
280 years ago. Humans started to fight back against the Yunti (a word used in disgust when describing a magic user.) The magic users needed to be reigned in. Spells used to hurt were banned. A group of soldiers were formed to monitor them. They were immune to the touch of magic. Humanity was eventually successful in controlling the magic users.
Over the course of the next 14 years, the humans dominated one race after another. The wars ended and a new era of peace and prosperity flooded the lands. They called this new era AP – After Peace.
Everything was now controlled by the humans. Money. Food. Land. Entertainment. Everything. All non humans were registered and implanted with a chip so they can be located. A magic user was implanted with devices so that if they caused harm, they could be remotely terminated.
The humans used their control over all the races in order to help them. They cured disease. Taught the Half orcs to farm. The humans protected the lesser races from bandits. As long as they kept to the peace treaty and did not harm any human or lesser race, they were left alone and provided for.
Peace had finally come to the world.
Wednesday – 256 AP
I was more antsy than normal during today’s briefing. I roll the everburning cigar around with my teeth while the captain explains the situation.
The half orc genophage was more devastating than they anticipated. That biological weapon was deployed 300 years ago. It helped win us the war. Our scientists only wanted to reduce the probability of the female to getting pregnant. It also has created a high probability of still births. These half orc Partukes were rebelling against every race. They were slaughtering everything in their path. Women, children. Nothing mattered to them. Just the lust of death and destruction. Who cares if they are nearing extinction. The genopage was a success.
Now one of our scientists had defected in an attempt to find a cure. Hell no. This scientist thinks that the half or race is gentler now. Says they have not caused any trouble and even helped us in the dwarven uprising of 112 AP. Says they paid their dues to society. Obviously he has not been seen them like I have. I have seen the blood lust in their eyes. No amount of “civilization” will cure that. Even though we have had peace for over 250 years, each race has had its guerilla movements. My squad goes in and takes them out. Nothing is more sacred than the peace of the civilians. Even the peace of the lessers is important to us. The dwarves learned that the hard way.
This scientist has rendezvoused with a group of Yunti that were using un-regulated magic to fight back. Didn’t have the chips in them.
We are to go in and take them out and kill the scientist and recover the cure sample he has.
We get up and head to the shuttle. I get The Negotiator from my locker and put it in its holster. It’s time to talk some sense into this scientist.
One Bullet to the head is all it will take for him come to his senses.
Friday – 256 AP
We’ve taken out most of the resistance. There desperate now. That means they are dangerous. They’ll try anything to keep breathing.
I nod to Slad and he shoots the lock on the door and kicks it open. I chuck in a flash bang and put my back to the wall. It goes off and my squad rushes in. We easily take out the few other scientists in the room. We advance on our target and I throw him against the wall, my gun to his head. I demand to know where the cure sample is, but he refuses. Didn’t matter. Raft found it. They were attempting to duplicate it in the cloner down the hall. I take it and put it in my pack. Time to take it back so our men can find a way to stop the cure from working. The Negotiator says his peace to the scientist and we head out.
They were waiting for us outside. A bunch of Yunti. We open fire and take out most of them. I see one about to chuck a spell at us and I hit him in the chest. He tries to finish his spell but its changed. The reds turned to blues and now I see what looks like people in the chaotic mist of the spells energy. A look of fear crosses his face as he loses control of the spell. Frak. I look at what looks like a dwarf, but they have been extinct for a century. The air around us turns violent and it feels like our bodies are being torn apart.
An eruption of energy hits us and I fly back into a tree. I feel the blood mingling into my hair from my head knocking back into the tree. We are all then pulled into the swirling energy.
I wake up to the sun glaring in my eyes. I look to my side and notice a Halfling putting his hand on my head and casting something. The pain leaves and I am able to come to my senses. A Halfling is touching me without permission. A fraking meunt is touching me. I smack his hand away and get up. I am relieved to find the negotiator is still with me. I pick it up off the ground and point it at him. He looks scared. He seems to have been helping me so I just leave him be and walk away. That night I look in my backpack. The cure is undamaged. I forgot I had it. I need to get it back to my base.
Day and date unknown
On what backwater planet am I on? Magic users run around doing whatever they please. The humans here are pathetic! They are everywhere yet they take no action to make this crap hole a better place. There is no technology. No vehicles flying in the sky. Every city I go to crime is rampant. Kids are begging in the street. Evil seems to be rewarded by city leaders.
One Yunti seemed to know I was not from this plane. Don’t know how… don’t care. He stated that if I go to (rappan athuk or Slumbering Tsar’s dungeon) I may find a way to get home. I have heard of this place in our legends so it has to be connected to my world somehow. He said I would likely die trying to get there.
Dying would be worth it to get away from these spineless humans and their rock.
